Boston Runs Again, Walks Again, Smiles Again

Image

I wanted to take a moment this week in remembrance of last years Boston Marathon.  Last year was a devastating time for the people of Boston, with many losses and many survivors.  What I’ve found is that the people of Boston have come back fighting, stronger than ever.  Even in the mist of life’s most challenging situations, many survivors are resolute to return and stand tall. To run again, to walk again, to smile again.  To them I send my thoughts and prayers.

When planning weddings with my clients, I try to help them keep things in perspective.  Yes, this is a once in a life time moment for you, your fiance’ and your family and friends.  But in the grand scheme of things, if everything isn’t precisely perfect, you have the love of everyone around you to envelop you and make your day so very special and memorable.  Life is full of memories and this is the first of many first for you as a married couple.

What’s In A Shoe?

You’re out looking for the perfect shoes for your wedding day and then you’re just overwhelmed.  There are voluminous options from colors, to sparkle, 1, 2 & 3 inch heels and higher, to simple kitten heels and even flats.  Now amongst all the brands out there we wouldn’t want to forget our fabulous Louboutin’s, our Chimmy Choos, our Valentino’s,  or our Oscar de la Renta shoes.  But for the majority of people there are other options.  David Tutera and Ivana Trump have gorgeous options for you that are a bit more budget friendly, yet just as spectacular as you see on the fashion runways.

What are you looking for in a great pair of shoes?  After you factor in the glitz and glamour of your shoes, remember they need to be comfortable.  You’re going to be on your feet alot on your wedding day, from the ceremony, to pictures, through the life of your reception celebration.  If you must where those high, spectacular heels, why not consider a kitten heel or flats for the reception?  Your feet will love you for it!

You should consider a heel that is no more than 2 inches high, as a higher heel tends to shift your weight forward putting pressure on the front of your feet. You’ll want to look for flexible soles. This allows your toes to bend naturally and any cushion in the shoes will keep your feet in place.  I wouldn’t recommend “breaking in” your shoes, as it never really works.  Remember, your shoes should feel comfortable from the moment you put them on.

If all else fails, purchase a pair of inserts.  You will be so glad you did!

It’s Raining It’s Pouring – Do You Have a Plan “B”?

Umbrellas

You planned your wedding day from the very moment you were engaged (and maybe sooner).  You chose the perfect venue, the greatest photographer ever, a wonderful band or dj.  Every little detail was thought of, down to the gold charges and linen napkins and oh so sweet favors for your guests.  Your cake is very traditional and your dress is a princess ball gown with all the embellishments you always thought of.  It’s your day to be the bride, to be a princess.  It’s his day to be the groom, to be your prince charming. It’s your day to celebrate your love with your family and friends.  The sun is shining and it’s going to be a wonderful day!   Oops, just in, the weather man says 90% of rain today……What to do?

Don’t panic.  Always have a plan “B”.  If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony and reception, you will need to watch the weather forecast.  If inclement weather is coming, don’t despair, you have options.  Have your ceremony under a tent, a pavilion, a shelter or even in a friends barn.  Ensure you have seating for your guests, especially older members of your family.  Any indoor space can be transformed into something spectacular with candles and uplighting or twinkle lights.

If it’s going to rain and you plan ahead, you can embrace the weather with colorful umbrellas for your guests!  Then it becomes a fun part of your special day.

My suggestion is to always plan ahead and have a plan “B”.  This is a once in a life time moment in your life and you don’t want to leave it to the weather man to decide how it’s going to turn out.

And as the old saying goes, “it’s good luck if it rains on your wedding day”.  Just not mine right?

Happy planning!
